Kathy Ireland and Alok come to Market

While Ireland – the former model turned business mogul – has shown home textiles before, this marks a major launch for the brand, which is also making its market debut with Nourison for rugs this week.
“Being with Alok is the perfect blend for us,” Ireland told HTT on the eve of market. “Arun (Agarwal, president of Alok) and his team have done a wonderful job bringing our design aesthetic to the market, while still providing a wonderful value.”
Agarwal said the launch line includes four beds on display plus 10 more on boards. There are also six styles of bath towels and 12 beach designs, plus back-up designs to provide retail exclusives.
The line is targeted at the department store channel and will not be available to discount retailers, he added. A spring 2014 launch at retail is projected.
The entire collection hits the sweet spot of the market that Ireland has targeted since she first entered the consumer business 20 years ago: “obtainable luxury.”
Three design themes are the cornerstones of the Kathy Ireland look: casual elegance, coastal Americana and Hollywood chic. “Arun has been a great partner and is a great example when people say it can’t be done. He and his team have done it,” she said.
Marking two decades, Ireland said she is proud of what’s been accomplished. “It’s been a wonderful journey … but we’re just getting started.”
